LOL, that's like saying no one's buying greeting cards or stationery anymore since hundreds of independent stationery stores were forced to close thanks to big, bad Walmart.
With a second reorganization (and reading the article, yes, they do liken themselves to the airline industry), Family Christian Stores 260 bookstores is filing for bankruptcy. I wonder how many of the faithful who supplied them will lose money.
Guess they should have prayed harder, doncha think?
Does this thread serve any purpose other than to mock Christians, or is this really an attempt to prove that Christianity is in decline? It's not like they are the only Christian bookstore. Lifeway is a major chain and they seem to be doing pretty well:

LifeWay Christian Resources, based in Nashville, Tennessee, is one of the largest providers of religious and Christian resources in the world.LifeWay has been recognized as one of the "Best Employers in Tennessee" by BusinessTN magazine.
LifeWay's ministries include the production of Bibles, church literature, audio and video recordings, church supplies, and Internet services. The company operates over 186 LifeWay Christian Stores through the United States, as well as one of the largest Christian conference centers in the country.
LifeWay is a 501(c) religious nonprofit organization that receives no funding from the denomination and reinvests income above operating expenses in mission work and other ministries around the world.
LifeWay employees are committed to the company's vision: "Biblical solutions for life."
It acquired Berean Christian Stores in September 2013, which at the time had 17 locations in the United States, primarily in California.
Regardless of my stance or anyone else's stance related to religious belief or non-belief:
Bookstores in general struggle as it is. And then specialized (narrow-focus) bookstores such as Christian bookstores can have their same material sold or even given out for free at churches of all types ... plus the same material can be sold by many general-purpose retailers (department and variety stores, general bookstores, college bookstores), online sales, et al. It could be very challenging for such a narrow-focus bookstore to stay in business with all the competition for the same information.
And then just about any and all Christian-related material and info that anyone could ever need or want is most often posted online for all to access and most often totally free. And then there are public and college/university libraries to either borrow materials from or to photocopy or scan desired material from. So, in summary, how is a so-called "Christian bookstore" going to compete against all this (managing to getting continual repeat business) to keep themselves open over the course of time?

Just showing another nail in the coffin of religiosity. Nice to see our college students are turning away from religion... In bigger numbers then ever.

The same thing is happening to them that happened to Barnes and Noble or Borders. It just took longer because the faithful did support them for awhile. But with Amazon being so huge, it's much easier to sit in my own home and buy whatever I want with the click of a mouse, for probably a cheaper price.

Here's a few you may want to add if you haven't read them yet

Bookstores and libraries are important for everyone. A business goes into bankruptcy for many reasons, and I always look at them with suspicion.
Corporate Bankruptcy hurts people, because they are not getting paid for their work.
Not paying your debts should be unconscionable for a faith based business.
Now that it is said and done, where are those people going to get their books? I love spending time in my local bookstore.
Read them both. Neither one were very good. Hitchens was not a great philospher. Dawkins should stick with biology. He just is not a good philosophical mind. Seriously....both of them made some pretty horrible arguments, and didn't present logical arguments.
