The Christian pollster the Barna Group finds when describing themselves, Americans first of all self identify with family, secondly as Americans, and much less and thirdly, by their faith. It appears the only reason that faith even hits third spot is because of the large number of people in the South who self-identify through their faith a lot more than the rest of the USA.
It appears once again, that faith is declining in importance to individuals. The good news is that family comes out on top regardless of all the dire warnings we here from some of the faith groups.

Honestly? I consider that a good thing. I'd rather not see the posers and nominal believers that identify with a religion simply because their parents were part of it.

Too many professing Christians are nuts or sniveling cheats...I would never claim any of it. No two churches of same denominations even submit to the same God.
The Bible itself predicted that the love of the greater number would cool off, but what I find terribly interesting is that, if you go to most any so called "Religious" forum such as this, most of the talking about faith is coming from the faithless. The latter seems far more obsessed with the subject than the former ever were.

Yeah, some of us have given a great deal of consideration to the whole idea. More just follow the herd without bothering or wondering why they do so.
Yes, and Gldnrule might be right. People will always be people and will always do the same. But the concensus viewpoint does change. It has changed and can change again. Can it make the step from lip service to religion to saying No?
On the other issues, does the lead come from the top or is the top responding to public opinion? All we can do is play the record and hope it catches on.
