Because it is not a monolith like that. There are plenty of Muslim citizens in the West who do not hold to a literal interpretation of Islam, just like many Christians don't hold to a literal interpretation of Christianity. Those are good, law abiding people who don't deserve to be painted with that brush.
You appear to want to demonize Muslims across the board based on your understanding of Islam rather than on their understanding of it. The equivalent would be deporting you because you're a Christian, and after all, Christians believe in eternal hellfire for unbelievers and stoning for adulterers and have been guilty of terrible crimes against humanity throughout the ages ... the Inquisition, the Crusades, the Salem witch trials, the Branch Davidians, and so forth.
Yes Islam (and Christianity) are violent religions with bloodthirsty gods and zero tolerance for contradicting their dogma. Yes Muslims (and Christians) wear funny garments and have strange customs (unless you happen to be one or the other).
The problems in the world will not be solved by simplistically affixing blame to a scapegoat and then slitting its throat. As our President said so well in his State of The Union address last night, we need to call terrorists just that and deal with them as that. Yeah, we need to understand how terrorists twist whatever ideology they choose to hijack but we also need the trust and cooperation of people in the mainstream of that ideology to help defeat those nutjobs.
And pragmatically, even if we could magically wish Islam away -- which we can't -- it wouldn't end terrorism. They would just attach to some other ideology -- Christianity would work fine for example -- and just carry on.
