Yes. Of course Satan is an actual being. He is alive and active. The Bible is clear on that one. He is the deceiver and the father of lies. Ephesians 6 talks about our struggle being spiritual in nature. Satan wants to deceive the church, and I believe he has had a field day as of late. Heck, there are plenty of folks on this very board that believe some really demonic doctrines.
Hahahaha... Aren't you fun?
No, Satan is the boogeyman for people who need a boogeyman to act right. A deterrent for those who can't deter themselves. A children's horror story villain, an unseen force that will drag you down and torture you.
In other words, or in this case Trout's words, "I think you are naïve".
It boggles the mind, Rafe. I have asked those who believe this to explain to me what this Satan character would get out of his antics since his end is so clearly bad. It does seem a fruitless enterprise with nothing in it for him. Of course, I get no answers.
I've never seen you ask me that question.
My answer would be that he is probably so arrogant that he doesn't care. He is angry at God and wants to blaspheme his name. There are all sorts of people that post here that act just like that.

Yes, isn't it funny when the fundamentalists think they know what is in their God's, or in this case Satan's, head? They claim on one hand that we can't possibly know what God thinks, and then proceed to tell us how God thinks... It is ridiculous. Now this guy is making assumptions on what his boogeyman MAY be doing or thinking... How ridiculous!
Well, biblically speaking, "satan" simply means adversary and "devil" means slanderer. Anybody can be those things to us, and we can be those things to others.
Actually, devil and devine are words of the same root, dev. They both origin in ancient Sanscrit word Devi देवी. Which basically means god.
Otherwise, just like any powers humans believe into, satanic ones are nothing but a powerful egregore. A thoughtform. Product of human thinking. As such, it influences humans back via conscious and subconscious. There is nothing unusual about it. Very simple, very basic mechanics, just like radio controlled devices.
Maybe, but one of my college buddies and two friends and I did a ouija board sessions for laughs. Within a week his house started having paranormal phenomenon. He moved out after a month, somewhat freaked out.
