The idea of testing the spirits is a good one. I would venture to say that if any vision goes counter to a concern for the general good it ought to be discounted.
Since we are away from the Christianity Forums....what is your take?
A Christian could have the same vision from God that anyone else does. But that would not validate his particular brand of faith. He would just put that "Christian" filter over the experience, thinking that it somehow validated his faith.

Remember my story about upcountry Thailand? Not exactly a vision...but an experience. But there is no reason anyone should believe it...there's no evidence.
What do you mean by visions? My take on it presently that it is some altered state, expression of creativity, perception error, bias, brain priming or other mental trick. I kind of like Jung minus some of the woo in that some of these experiences can lead us in the direction we need to go but I believe that direction is internal.

I see no reason for you to have made it up! It was 'something' alright!

Visions...um..I will take your lead and add some...altered state, a diff perception, that is correct and broadened/expanded and not in error at all....not a mental trick, a mental enhancement...which leads us to new internal awakenings or insights.
There are two things in existence, that have no limits.
1. Human stupidity
2. Human imagination.
Question about undefined "visions" falls into cat 2.
Hey, my stupidity has certain limits!
