Jesus showed us Elijah and Moses with himself representing what he was as his own kingdom as a prophet, a priest and a king. The 3 discples had to mirror this makup to show that the same thing makes a human and this is true. Your body wants to sin, but your spirit tells you no, and there you are between the two minds, only you can decide.
Just as the two sons of thunder symbolized Peter's own two witnesses, so too are Elijah and Moses to Jesus.
That is what you think about when looking at those 2 boys in the virgins on rocks, they are the two witnesses, the rod and the staff.
