I think torture is not as bad when it's one group of religious fundamentalist torturing another group of religious fundamentalist.

I'm not a churchgoer and I see nothing wrong with torture for the right reason. If someone had one your loved ones strapped to a nuke somewhere that you'd be the one doing the torturing!

Yes, but the situation you described would be one fueled by emotion and vengeance. You would be blinded by this. People do not act rationally when emotion is driving them. What if this person that you are torturing has no idea or is completely innocent? What you have just done is torture an innocent person. Now you have just created sufficient reason for the innocent person to somehow get justice on YOU. They would have a justifiable reason to seek vengeance.

What about the family of this innocent person that is getting tortured by you? You open up the reasoning that it is okay to torture people that know you, to find out where YOU are torturing their family member.

You are just opening up a huge can of worms by allowing torture. I fully support a policy that disallows torture in any circumstance.

If we truly wish to be an enlightened people, we must recognize that torture may be viscerally satisfying but it is still evil and immoral.
