Believe me, this is an anonomyous survey based upon a sociological study. I'm posting it here since it talks about ethics and morals and not sure where else to post it

Comments would be welcome, but not needed.

The question is about felony crimes that are NOT personal in nature. Crimes such as burglary or armed robbery etc. Not crimes like murder where you are mad at someone and wish them dead.

In the United States it's impossible to exist without committing a felony. An article a while back stated that on average Americans commit three felonies every day without even knowing it.

Here's the article:

L. Gordon Crovitz: You Commit Three Felonies a Day - WSJ.com

So yes, I commit felonies. Every day.

OK so, if you read that article and take it into account when making your selection answer your question by using the phrase knowingly commit a felony.

We were asked this question in college and only 1 person admitted to be willing to commit a felony as long as he knew he wasn't going to get caught. But then, the professer had us close our eyes and asked the same question. A few more hands went up but then he admitted that he felt the numbers would be higher because even with eyes closed there was still the fear that people would be peeking and the anonymity would be compromised.

I'm testing that theory

Cease your felonious deeds, rapscallions!

Really, it's true. Pretty much everyone has committed a felony at least once in one's day... though I hope nobody finds this at the places I'm putting in job applications.

Yes, I knowingly commit felonies. Multiples. Daily.

None of them hurt anyone, damage anyone's property, or pose an immediate threat.

Ya know.......I suspect it would be downright idiotic to go into detail on a public site.

That's exactly why I emphasized this is anonymous. I don't want detail, just testing a theory on mankinds morality

Absolutely...

But it changes the entire nature of the question.

If walking to your car, starting the engine, and driving to work was a felony, would you knowingly commit a felony?

That's a different question than, for example, "Would you rape and pillage if you were guaranteed immunity from prosecution?"

And even that is yet a different question from, "If you had to commit a felony to do good... would you do it?" If, for instance, giving medicine to a sick homeless guy was a felony, but he's going to die without it.... would you?

It's a question involving the obvious disconnect between the legal system and reality. Moral behaviors are independent and negotiated, because the legal system is no longer a valid bar by which to gauge moral behavior.

If they've got such ridiculous felony laws that I unknowingly commit 3 a day then I suppose I would. I'm not doing anything I'd consider immoral so...
