The idea of original sin says that all humans are born tainted with the sin that was committed by the first humans, Adam and Eve, when they disobeyed God in the Garden of Eden. This was considered such a great sin against God's command that it has been called The Fall of Mankind in religious circles. Because of their disobedience, God proclaimed that all future descendants of Adam and Eve (that's all mankind) would inherit the original sin upon themselves.

Do you believe in that idea?

Or do you believe that everyone starts off from birth with a clean slate and is only responsible for the sinful acts committed while alive? Who are people responsible to for their sinful acts?

Nope. It's absurd.

In addition to the dittos, we don't start off with a clean slate in the sense that we are already encoded with instincts, and selfish they are. We also have the instinct of empathy and social bonding. They are in our genes. So our human nature is indeed 'written on our hearts' as Paul says (heart being a metaphor for genetically encoded instinct), and what we then do is to educate people in the human moral codes worked out over thousands of years so that we treat each other as we would want to be treated. The Golden Rule pops up in many different cultures, apparently independently.

The sooner we understand what is really going on and drop this absurd and horrible myth of original Sin, the better.

IIRC, the concept of original sin is yet another thing that the heretic Augustine imported into Christianity when he converted from Manicheanism. It is amazing how many heresies that man introduced. If there were one person I hoped would be completely discredited, and whose teachings would be abandoned, it its Augustine.

Default Do you believe in original sin

Yes but "original" is a church only term yet conveys we are born into a sinful nature . As an evangelical I do not abide by infant
baptism as it was presumed necessary to protect a child from damnation should they die ( really?) We believe simply that you
as an "individual " ( not a potential drunk uncle sponsor) must
be of an age of accountability for sin and have the ability to repent . Infant baptism is a spiritual scam a perversion of scripture!

Judaism teaches that we are born with a clean slate. Each of us has both a good inclination and a bad inclination; which we follow is up to us, and we are responsible for for what we do.

We are accountable to both those we have hurt and to God, and we must make amends to both in order to correct our errors.

Now I am surprised. I always thought that Augustine was a perfectly Orthodox Catholic sent by the Vatican to convert the heathen. If he taught original sin, it was a Catholic teaching, no? And still is, Yes? And one that dates back to Paul's argument from Adam's sin in Romans. I don't see how you can remove the doctrine of Original Sin from any church teaching, catholic, or its offshoot, the protestant churches.
