As the name implies, because I do not believe in any of the thousands of gods that have been made available to public scrutiny by its' misdirected followers. (those who believe in things that do not exist).

Atheism per se does not try to promote anything. Most Atheists are quite content simply getting on with their lives. I would say most Atheists feel independent thinking and analytical skills are often sorely lacking from any debate on theology and can get frustrated with the level of intellectual discourse but apart from that most of us simply want to be left alone in terms of our lack of religious beliefs and not ostracised for daring to stand outside the fold. Atheists in my experience tend to be more individualistic and less likely to bond as a social "group". Humanists are possibly the closest Atheists get to become more socially involved in the spreading of the "good word" ( ie reason, common sense, philosophical debates on the human condition from a non believer's stance, the spread of scientific knowledge etc...).

Atheists are like cats in terms of herding. Not terribly naturally inclined to it.

No religion has a corner on God. God is part of us all, within us all. It is not something we "do" or something we "believe" ....it is just something we are. Divinity is our nature. It is part of us all, like our bones, or lungs, or emotions, or need for love and comfort and happiness. We don't choose those, we don't find them somewhere out there; they are part and parcel of who we are as humans. Nobody is without them. They are within us. It's like discovering and mining the buried treasure within.
Based on everything you've said, imo, you sound like an atheist. Your description of "god" is so generic ("our nature", "within ourselves") that it renders the term "god" meaningless. Those who refer to nature as "god", or "love" as god, or "energy" as god, for example, are essentially atheists because nature is nature, love is love, and energy is energy.....not a god. Let's just call a spade a spade. Heck, I believe in all of these things too, but they are not a god. Buddhists follow a loving religion, for example, yet they do not believe in any god.

The difference between an atheist and a theist is not the different objects they worship -- rather, it's the difference between worshiping versus not worshiping at all.

If someone repents to nature whenever natural has some wrath, and bends over offering his rear to nature as way of praying -- then he is a theist. If someone does not do the silly things theists are familiar with, then he is an atheist.
