Can anyone provide a general description of the residential neighborhoods south of McCarran, west of S. Virginia Street, and on down to Mt. Rose Hwy? Are these good neighborhoods? How do they compare with the old southwest and northwest Reno?

What are the zip codes between McCarran and Huffaker Ln (89511 I believe), Huffaker and Arrowcreek, Arrowcreek and Mt. Rose Hwy?

Thanks

The area you're looking at is rural (for Reno). There are a lot of mini ranches down there. Very expensive. Once you get down to Foothill Rd south to Mt. Rose Hwy. there is a lot of airplane noise. I looked at a development down off of Arrowcreek Pkwy that Ryder Homes is building about two weeks ago. Great houses but it was just one plane after another and for houses over $650k that just doesn't seem right. Overall though the area you're looking at is very nice just make sure that you stay north of Foothill or the planes don't bother you.

Thanks, Renoguy. Yes, looking at the area on Google Earth, they mostly look like either large ranch-type lots or new bubble-type developments and potentially very expensive. Thanks for the tip about the airplane noise.

What about the neighborhood further east, over the hills, I believe it's known as Virginia City Highlands or Virginia Foothills. What is life there like? What's it like driving over Geiger Grade Road towards Reno, rush hour, non-rush hour?

Thanks again in advance.

Geiger Grade is steep and winding. I can't speak for rush hour, but otherwise, traffic isn't much of a problem. You'll want a 4-wheel drive for the winter.
