I live in NJ and having problems with a fellow tenant who lives below me. They are a young married couple. Probably between 25-30 years old. He really is the problem. She is quiet. He is typical dumb meathead type. The kind that wears shorts during the middle of the winter when it is 15-20 degrees outside. They play movies loud at night. Even right now, I hear movie dialogue coming up through the ceiling floor. You can feel the floor vibrating. I've always tried to be tolerant. He is doing it on purpose. Starts at 8pm and does not stop until 11pm, sometimes 12am. It was mostly on weekends. Now he is starting to do it during weekdays. I live in a condo complex where people own the condos and rent them out. I am renting and so does the couple below me. I've called the police twice. The first time, the police came and the couple would not come to the door. The second time, I called the police, they did not show up until almost 2 hours after I called. What kind of police force is that? I don't have a police report yet that states that they arrived on the scene and heard the noise. I guess I am at a point where I may need to retain a lawyer and have him send a letter to the owners of the condo and the idiot couple complaining about the noise.

Any suggestions regarding what I should do? Any lawyers out there? Please don't tell me to talk with him. He knows he is doing wrong. When you have to talk with someone about being disrespectful, they are a lost cause. His parents have failed him.

A bit frustrated here.

Thanks.

Cheers

Mohawk

You may get farther if you can talk to his landlord or manager. Calling the police is rarely effective, except being able to tell the landlord that the police are regularly being called on their problem tenant.

Another option might be to complain to the Homeowner's Association.

If none of that does any good, what time do you get up? What time do they get up? You could start blasting your stereo early in the morning LOL.

Or, buy him some headphones?

If you just have to endure him until you move, try using a huge fan for white noise. That's what I do. This is the fan I have:
