Which taxes?

Are you talking about hotel/motel taxes for AirBnB rentals?

Usually a higher property tax rate is levied on rentals than on owner-occupied homes.

For example, in Michigan the school property tax rate on rentals is four times the rate on owner-occupied.

Hotel/motel taxes typically apply only to daily and weekly rentals and not to monthly rentals.

Oregon law allows up to 2 per bedroom; landlords can impose tighter restrictions but cities and counties cannot. There are so many homeowners in Portland renting out rooms they would probably think the rest of the country is nuts. (But they would use a different four-letter word.)

Nothing is stopping you from increasing your income and moving to a larger, nicer home. I have no problem paying my rent nor do millions of other tenants in this country. It's only the entitled ones that seem to complain the loudest. Get a job.

Econ 101. In the absence of a housing shortage, the rent would not be 2 damn high.

Actually, half of all low-income renters spend at least half their income on shelter, according to Mortgage News Daily. A lot of them DO have problems paying the rent and a lot of them do get evicted.

Zoning by definition is discriminatory. Deal with it.

My response was to Freemkt and no one else. I do understand that there are people who are legitimately struggling and do need help..but they aren't sitting on the internet complaining about their life and their choices..they're out working trying to improve their situation. Huge difference.

That's sad. One residential rate and one commercial (I.e. apartment bldg) property rate here. Rented homes are taxed as residences, not businesses.

But we are a low-tax state.

Sounds like a recipe for class warfare.

Usually? Please show me the stats on that.

I live in Texas now, where we have a tax break on a portion of our property tax. I lived in CA for 25 years and AZ for almost 4 years, where that is not an option.
