I just had a clogged-up toilet in my rental apt.
I called management and they sent a maintenance repair guy in about 5 minutes. He stopped the leak, then is now using a shop vac to such up the water, its pretty flooded! Now I'm glad I have renter's insurance!

Question---should I tip the maintenance guy? How is $5? I know that's his job, but he didn't have to respond so quickly and do such a good job.

WDYT

Regardless....I just tipped him $5. He seemed surprised but appreciative. We've live here almost a year and never had a single maintenance issue. We're the type who likes to keep to ourselves unless its a major problem we can't handle. I figure a little good will goes a long way!

Then Why did you bother to come on here & ask? You already plan to tip him anyway.

Not common here... just being nice is enough to get premium service.

Some of the residents will present a Starbucks card at Christmas or a some homemade holiday cookies.

I've tipped people before... just show appreciation... like lunch is on me.

Company policy is all monies need to be declared... I have no problem with a $5 Starbucks Card...

Needed a refrigerator for Sunday delivery... Lowes made it happened... delivery is not allowed to accept tips... put $5 in his shirt pocket and appreciated I was the first delivery.... otherwise I would have been waiting around the rental maybe all day.
