I called and was told this information must be provided...

Just wondering if others find the same the their city or county?

We have to register each property with the county recorder. And the state just took over the majority of sales tax licensing and payment processing. I don't think I've had to give my tax ID to either of those yet though.

The sales tax shocked me because I was sure the legislature would step in and ban sales tax from rentals back in 2008-2010 but they basically did the opposite. Shifting collection to the state allows smaller cities to start collecting it without starting up a whole new division for it.

As far as I know having a driver's license is not a requirement for property ownership... yet, the city said the form would be returned as incomplete if left blank...

I pay the city money and not the other way around...

Even people who have no driver's license should have a state issued photo ID. Title companies will accept that when buying a house if someone doesn't have a driver's license, so I would assume the city would accept that as a substitute as well.

And no, rental property owners in my area do not have to provide any more information to the city than regular homeowner occupants. Of course, neither do property managers. Idaho is very unregulated.

I like to use my Passport Card

Federal Law says it is good anywhere ID is required except for International Flights...

My City does not accept it...

Wait! Renters have to pay sales tax on the rent they pay? Or do you mean there is a tax when you sell a house?

Good thing you are not a property owner where I currently live. The owners now have to post their phone number where they can be reached 24 hours a day outside any short term rental. Yep, in large print.

That way, us neighbors can call ya and let ya know your renters are partying loudly and keeping us up at night And when the police come, they can call ya too

What city? Or at least what state?

I think I know the city/county you're referencing. I read that it was in an effort to collect unpaid business tax.

The odd part to me though is the DL thing. What if the TIN is issued to a corporation/LLC and the DL is obviously an individual's ID. Unless they plan on looking up the records of corp/LLCs to see who the major holders are.
