I moved into an apartment last year. I moved out in the beginning of May 2017 leaving one roommate (Roommate A) still in the unit. One of the other roommates (Roommate B) moved out the WEEK before me (she had only signed a two month lease.)
Today, I received a statement stating that the apartment was taking $50 from my security deposit due to having to clean the washer and dryer in the common area. However, I STILL HAD ONE ROOMMATE IN THE UNIT who regularly uses the washer and dryer (and regularly leaves messes for me to clean, but that's another reddit post for another day.) How could they have assessed damaged with someone still in the unit who is moving out this week?? I did my share of the cleaning while there!
How can they legally do this? Mind you, they didn't charge Roommate B for anything in the common area.
Why am I being singled out? What can I do? They haven't responded to my inquiry pertaining to the discrepancy in how I've been charged.
