I have a situation and wanted to see what other people might think of this. I rent a room from a private owner. I have a dog and they have a dog as well. My dog stays in a crate while I am at work all day because the owner of the home asked me to crate her. Her dog gets to roam freely around the house. On 2 occasions I had run out of the house quickly and forgot to shut my door. During those two occasions her dog ate 2 pairs of jeans, 2 pairs of workout pants, numerous socks and underwear of mine. I have never once gotten any money from the owner for my things and they have never even said sorry. The thing that gets me the most is that her dog has even eaten my socks while she has been home and she doesnt even discipline her dog!!! Sorry if I am ranting but it just annoys me to all ends. Do you think that I should ask her to pay me for my things?
Thank you for your thoughts! They are the same as mine and all of my friends. I just wanted an unbiased opinion. I have already given her my notice and plan on moving out this weekend. The thing that SUCKS is that I am on a month to month lease but have to give 60 days notice. GRRRRR

Once my things start getting broken or going missing...I am outta there.
After moving, or even if you don't move, you can take her to small claims court. This of course would work best if you still have the damaged clothing as proof.
Uh no...You left your door open. She is not your mommy and is not suppose to make sure you shut and lock your own door. If you shut your door and the dog opened it that would be a different story. But you are at fault here by not securing your room. Would you sue your landlord for missing items if you forgot to lock the door to your apartment? Not if you were sane....
