The problem with flushing cat and dog feces down toilets is the micro-organisms and Toxoplasma oocysts in pet feces are not fully cleaned out of waste water. This causes serious problems for fish and wildlife when the water is "cleaned" and then released. Flushable litter or not, pet feces is not to be flushed. Ever. Unless you hate the planet.
There should not be anything going down the toilet that you haven't chewed first.
Chewing my toilet paper would just be gross.
I didn't realize people flushed litter. I only ever buy the clumping kind and trash it. Can't imagine even thinking about flushing it - sounds like nothing but a problem down the road.
There's no such thing as flushable anything - except toilet paper - and things you've chewed (love that one). That's what I told my tenants, after we experienced having to snake pipes multiple times because of flushable wipes.
People are really weird about flushing things down toilets. Cigarette butts are another one - and an easy way to bust a tenant in a non-smoking building ha ha.
Plumbers will tell you that Charmin is not good for septics...it takes too long to break down. I can't imagine that dumping a clumping litter down the toilet isn't going to have a negative effect on the pipes or septic.
Plumbers also tell you not to flush condoms, paper towels, baby wipes and tampons...I'm guessing we should add cat litter (any type) to the list.
As a plumber's daughter and someone who has seen sewage treatment plants, totally agree.
I never even heard of anyone flushing cat litter and I owned cats for 30+ years. Disgusting and risky.
Landlords who have to deal with tenants being mauled to death are doing something wrong, wouldn't you agree?
