I can relate....When my husband and I first retired we made friends with some couples around our age....They were really nice people but they always went to bed super early at night and seemed to follow a schedule when it came to bedtime and when they ate meals etc....We didn't fit in very well because we wanted to "feel free" and spontaneous ....not tied to a daily schedule........There were other differences too.
I know what you mean. I think it has to do with gearing your dinner around early bird specials. If you eat at 4:30, you might as well go to bed at 9:00.
Isnt senior what we all were our last year of high school? Anyway, like so many others have stated, just keep handing out those discounts, and the term senior is fine, does not phase me a bit. In fact, when making a purchase at a place where senior discounts are the practice, will often smile and ask for the geezer price. Geezer, dont think that one has been mentioned yet. A few of you may bristle at that term, but again, no problem with me.
No, I don't mind geezer. I think it sounds amusing.
Isn't this just a personality difference? Most people stick to a schedule no matter what their age. A minority like to be spur of the moment and follow their whims.
When young, we call them irresponsible & unreliable.
Oh, I dunno. Maybe being a stickler for strict schedules at home is akin to being anal. The only place I've ever been called "anal" is on the job 'cause I was always such a stickler for "doing the job right". lol I don't think I have ever been called "irresponsible & unreliable".
Well said! Too many people talk themselves into being old and begin behaving as they think they should at their current age - balooney!
Since nobody has ever been able to explain to me how one is "supposed" to look or act at any certain age I decided I'll just be "me" and let the chips fall where they may. When I was younger I got the "You don't look or act your age", which is what made me ask the question of "How...?" I believe it's mostly attitude although I think if people have a lot of physical problems it probably perpetuates the "old age" thing. My mom keeps telling me that "Someday it'll all catch up to you" and maybe it will. But till then.... She's 83 and I'm "only" 67.
I just turned 59, and DH 63. I got a letter from the local assisted living facility this week, informing me that they have an opening and I should apply now. I wonder if they'd mind having a 16 year old living there too? Our youngest is 16, you see.

I was thinking the same thing ... it is more of a personality difference than it has anything to do with age.

You can't stay forever young but you can stay forever immature.

Dang never thought of that. If it is a cutie behind the counter she might give you another 5%. Good thinking. Who can turn down a smiling and charming old geezer?
