If you chose to retire, did you celebrate? How? By smiling a strangers, skinny dipping, buying a round of drinks, burning your work duds? We went on a trip as I said in a previous thread. Sometimes the anticipation is as good as the trip!

Not retired yet, but agree with what you said about anticipation. I'm an American Airlines traveler and feel depressed if I go to the "my reservations" area and don't see a trip there. Some call it overthinking, but I love researching and planning, whether it be a trip, what kind of dog to buy (that took 6 months), or, of course, retirement planning. So maybe time to plan my retirement celebration--Lord knows I've got plenty of time. You have some great ideas, loved the skinny dipping.
Burning work duds? Hmmm.... maybe the pantyhose! Or better yet, fill that pantyhose with thistle and hang it in a tree for the gold finches. Any clothing that's usable is being donated. What can I say-- I may be silver haired but I'm a child of the 60s and still into recycling.
But.... to mark the occasion I might just have a margarita after dropping off my donation.
Didn't know I was retired, when I really was retired. Never celebrated, but now, pretty much we celebrate Arbor Day, Bastille Day or any day that is a holiday somewhere in the world. It's all good.
Every day is a celebration of my emancipation. Freedom. Being able to do what you want when you want is liberating.
No more daily slog to work over a hundred miles of bad roads. No more shoveling out the car and scraping ice off the windshield. I guess you could say I celebrated by moving a couple thousand miles away from all the things I disliked the most!
I started singing that Johnny Paycheck song (Take this job and shove it...) as I walked past my manager's office
My manager knew it was in jest though !
