Anybody here take up golf after they retired? Mostly directed to those who never played before. Did you stick with it? Take lessons? Become addicted? Give up in disappointment? If you stayed with it, how much time do you devote to golf each week? Do you consider yourself a good player? Anything else?
I just retired and have started golfing again after years of not golfing. I am not keeping score. I am not going to spend a lot of money on equipment. I will not take a lesson. I will watch the Golf Channel and get tips. I am not going to play with anybody who is addicted to the sport. It is a game and I am not very good. Once in awhile I get a birdie or par , but mostly just bogey golf. Most players are actually bogey golfers (+18). Have fun with the game.
I have better and more valuable time to use than to spend 6-8 hours going around a golf course chasing errant balls.
I have a neighbor that all he does is golf 5 times a week and does nothing but complain about how bad he plays and spends tons of money trying to improve his game.
I played golf when I was younger. Great game but unfortueately a shoulder injury put a end to that from the military.I still accompany some friends when they play. Its perhaps the number one man social game in the world. Kind of like fishiong and hunting;a chance for the guys to get together.
Wife and I don't play golf, but sure watch PGA Championships on tv quite a bit. We visited Sawgrass Country Club in Ponte Vedra once, quite the place! I was a caddy one time for a very short time.......a golf bag full of stuff sure can be heavy! My last supervisor told me that he took up golf so he could get around the "big wigs" in a company.......of which he did.
I took up golf again a few months ago after many years of being too busy to play regularly. I started with once-a-week lessons and am now playing weekly with a friend. I'll never be a par golfer but I'm loving being out on the links again. The surroundings are beautiful, I'm enjoying the challenge of trying to unlearn years of bad golfing habits, am meeting lots of new people who are paired with my friend and I, and the little bit of exercise I get in each round is good for me. I did buy myself a new set of clubs but didn't spend an arm and a leg. It's wonderful to be golfing again.
