I think this could work. I'd be interested. There should be a site for people wishing to meet platonic friends. You could screen for compatable interests and locations. You like?

No, not like Facebook or meetup. I use both, it isn't what I mean.

It is indeed very difficult to find and keep high quality friends these days. The % of disappointing attempts is high. This is a good idea.

I see the difference between it and FB/Meet too. It's a different niche. Seems like a good idea, but I think the nature of the target relationships would make it difficult. That first meeting could just be a little awkward. That's probably why it hasn't really caught on like the dating sites have. Craigslist has an "activity partner" section that is probably closest to what I think the OP is talking about.

I ask myself what qualities would I like in a friend. Honesty and an out-goingness, go-get-um attitude is one attribute. I think if my potential friend was clacking on the keyboard trying to scare up a friend then when I meet her, we wouldn't have a chance in hell.

Facebook is a good site because she'll either already be an old friend or a friend-of-a-friend. Months and years can go by, sharing ideas and thoughts, pics and music in a venue where there's no desperation. And that's the thing... Meet-up for friends has an air of desperation.

I'm not talking about Facebook "friends," you know, the kind you never see in person. I'm talking about someone you meet in person and do things with. Match.com for friends is no more desperate than the same for mates. Meet-up brings together people who like the same activities. That doesn't mean you will find a friend.
