The Postal Service announced this morning they cutting Saturday mail delivery to trim costs; it's about time!!

I have emailed my elected more times than I could even count urging them to allow the USPS to cut Saturday delivery.

In reality, I do not see any issues with going to 5 day delivery, and it is long overdue, and from a business perspective, this shows the USPS is beginning to think like a business.

This initiative will save an estimated $2B/year, but the good thing about it is the millions of gallons of fuel to be saved, and the positive impact on the environment.

Personally I'd like them to go to 3 day a week, MWF or TRS. One of the biggest cost is labor, Going to 3 days a week would reduce there delivery work force but 47%.

They should go to a zero day work week...The Postal service is nothing but a "jobs program" for certain people..

Putting a retirement spin on this, the people who will be most adversely affected will be the older retirees living out in rural areas. Many of them depend on mail delivery. Also, although us "younger" retirees are computer savvy there are thousands of people age 75+ who are too old to learn how to use computers--that's why they still do a lot of important things like bill paying through the mail. If they try to start using computers, many of them will become scam targets.

I don't see any "adverse effect" on old people, no matter how old, through giving up the Saturday mail delivery. Some politicians in the past have talked about old people depending on mail delivery of their prescription medications. Yes, they do, but if they are cutting it so close that the Saturday mail delivery makes any difference there is something terribly wrong. It's high time this move was made by the postal service. I can't see any valid arguments against it other than that people are used to it and therefore don't like giving up something they are used to. Old people certainly don't have to flock to computer usage just because they're not getting mail on Saturdays anymore; that just doesn't make any sense at all.

Agree! The postal unions ran commercials preying on the senior population and their timely dilervy of medications. Heck, if they simply order them in a timely manner, they will get them in a timely manner; simply cannot see where elimination of Saturday will have that significant an impact.
