Still wondering why this is in the Retirement forum, but I'll play along. The worst is Grandma Got run over by a Reindeer. At the height of the season, you hear this in stores or on the radio 50+ times a day. Ridiculous song.
The fact that stores are playing Christmas music in stores decorated for Christmas, while so many shoppers are buying Christmas gifts doesn't bother me in the least.

Oh that's one of my favorite, how could you not like that one?
At first I thought this was a The Onion type thread.
I'm out of it. I don't know what that means.
Of course this is a retirement thread. It has grumpiness, a fight, opinionated people, references to the distant past, silliness, and is minus any generation bashing. We all know what we are talking about and there are no twenty somethings who need to have it 'splained.

The Onion is a news publication devoted to satire and stories presented as true that aren't but often make a satirical point.
Amazon doesn't play music while I shop. Who goes to stores anymore? Get the flu there.
My beef is restaurants where the music seems to be there for the workers and not for guests who might want to have a quiet meal and a conversation without having to "yell" across the table. I frequent one local place and they automatically turn it down when I come in. I tip well.
The older I get, the less tolerance I have for public outings. There is nothing quite so pleasant (to me) than the quiet of home.
As for anyone who thinks this thread, or similar ones, is inane, let me just suggest that most of our world is inane at some level.
Having worked retail, I can assure you -- we don't hear it. All the music becomes background "white" noise. Which is why it's important if the volume creeps up or they are playing objectionable material (I walked out of a grocery store playing gangster rap once, after telling the management why) you need to tell them.
Don't assume we can hear it.
You are so right about that! Once in a while something will creep into my hearing but not very often. The other morning I went in at 7 AM and it was so quiet I could hear it TOO well. It was really loud so I asked them to turn it down. Thankfully, they did!
