Rather than take a left through traffic, I will
Now drive out of my way to only go right.
Drives BH nuts.
How about you?
You've stumbled upon what UPS drivers are made to do: no left turns as they waste time, fuel and efficiency. You have been listening to the inner voice of your woman's intuition telling you the right thing to do. http://priceonomics.com/why-ups-trucks-dont-turn-left/
I do make left turns and take routes by fire stations and the airport to get looks at fire engines and airplanes because I ask which way my three year old grandson wants to go home from pre-school.
Seriously, I'm a very defensive driver in FL with so many tourists in rental cars and not used to the roads or the car and also the occasional elder that should lose the priviledge of having a driver's license.
I'm not any more defensive now than when I was young. I was always more on the defense when I was pulling the horse trailer.
I can't ride anymore, which is probably a good thing because I would be paranoid and probably end up in jail if someone hit my horse trailer while they were texting.
You wouldn't believe the idiots in cars that hit horse trailers around here because they're busy doing something besides driving and paying attention Or mehbee ya would
I used to drive a horse trailer, too.
I definitely preferred right hand turns, then, too.
That sums it up nicely in two short sentences. Defensive driving means looking out for what the other person may do wrong. I have always been a defensive driver. The faster and more aggressively one drives, the more important it is to be a defensive driver.
A better thread title might have been, "Have you become a pathologically fearful driver with age?"
No, no, no
But I am wary of what the other driver does while not paying attention.

In Florida? Occasional? Really? At least one doesn't need GPS or a road map to know when one is in Florida, as the cars ahead appear to be driven by headless people.
Oh yes, I've definitely slowed down and become more careful of what other drivers do. I've seen some accidents in person caused by complete carelessness, so yes it makes you more cautious. But I've also taken some other defensive steps. I try to avoid rush hour traffic, as I don't have to commute to work most days. I also avoid driving at night. People start to drink more after work, they can't see as well, etc.
In Fergus Falls they haven't learned the art of blinkers. Sometimes, just as they get to a turn or in the middle of one, they suddenly remember. Doesn't help much for driver's behind them.
As for myself, I always have been a defensive driver. Unfortunately, since the car accident, I have become a paranoid driver. Yup, I would have no qualms about going further & taking a right. In fact I do.
That's another thing I have to take into consideration, having transportation outside of my car.

Whoa, you were so right about scorpions earlier.
