If you are already retired and you had 10-15 more years to retire, what would you do differently? Did you move away from family? Have a second home somewhere? Did you put aside enough money?

I think I am feeling a little burnt out now but we have had a lot of negative things happen in the past year so it wears you down. We have to start over again - I am trying to be positive!

Let me hear your thoughts. We would probably work part time after 10-15 years. (maybe)

I'm in the same situation. Have saved approximately $500k, have a pension at about $4k/mo and really don't have to work anymore (I'm 45 yrs old). I'm tired of working long hours everyday. I think I could find enough to do as a retiree (fitness, golf, hobbies). But I don't want to be a 70 year old and regret retiring too early.

I took an early retirement to move back into the land of snow and ice. I missed it terribly. In hindsight, I am sorry. It never occurred to me that I wouldn't be working, at least part time somewhere. I didn't work a single day in 2007 and I miss it. But I didn't count on an old childhood illness latching onto me again - same one that sent me south to begin with. It's worse now. I hadn't planned on an old back injury resurfacing and causing me limited mobility including even walking. I wonder now if these would have surfaced if I had stayed in FL.

But, no point in looking back.

Now that I am here, I am finding other things to keep me as active as I can - with a gym in my home. If I walk outside, I have the option of going up hill or down hill. I don't do uphill very well. So I exercise in my own home.

Money isn't really an issue right now. Since I don't work, I just have to plan a bit on groceries and can get away with shopping once a month. If I had to go to work every day or had to be somewhere else every day, that would take a serious chunk of change in gas. I can live comfortably on my $900/month.

If food prices go any higher, gas prices and the like, I could be in deep doodoo. But that's what gardening, canning and keeping livestock is all about.

Bette. Do not give up. My husband and I have started life over twice. We made the mistake of moving to a small mountain town to get away from the crime in S. Ca many years ago. The first gulf war broke out and we almost starved for the first 5 years. We were in our early 40's then, but it took all our savings to restart our practice. When we reached our late 40's our oldest daughter became ill and it drained our savings account again. So we started over at 50. We will be ok, not as great as it nothing had tripped us up. My husband has decided he would work anyway, so off to work we go. Best of luck.
