Is there a medically approved bracelet or somesuch that would be honored? They say to post your DNR on the fridge. I think I'll paint mine on the outside of the front door.
Post it multiple places, plus a bracelet and I'm even thinking of getting a tat.
I have spent the last 20 years with multiple relatives that died from decades of illness, mostly mental disease. I have seen what that does to the quality of their lives and their care takers. The males in my family have all had the courtesy to die quick but the women just hang on and spend most of the families money.
The oldest any relative in my family has made it is 82, but that was a woman the oldest male was 77. I'm 62 and suspect that I have 10-15 years left and I hope they are active years. If I start to have any disease that limits my useful ness or mental abilities I would want a quick death.
So no I would not want to live so long that every day is just another day and daily chores are impossible.
My sound financial planning says that I will be out of money (except for SS) when I am 89 years, 4 months, and 14 days old so I am cool until then........LOL
Last Sunday, Santa Anita legend John Shear celebrated his 95th birthday. Still working at the track, the diminutive Shear (4'-10") does 60 pushups a day, and works to get away from his wife:
Last night, my 94-year-old neighbor passed away at his home near Tampa FL, where he and his wife lived most of the year (they also have a place in Maine, quite near us).
My question to you is: would you want to live to the age of 94-95? Why, or why not?

Since I have worked with Thoroughbreds since 1970 and on the track since 1980 I WISH I had John Shear as my 95 year old neighbor instead of the one I have . We would at least have something in common . I am sorry for the loss of your 94 year old neighbor .
I would be ready to check out any time I am to old or sick to get around under my own power. My Grandparents outlived my parents, so in my family we are dying younger, not living longer.
Vial of Life is a nationally recognized program to have your medical information on hand and available to EMT personnel when you are unable to speak. Put your medication list and your Advance Directive and phone numbers of emergency contacts into a plastic container with the words Vial of Life on it and put it on the top door-shelf in your fridge. Put the words Vial of Life on a piece of paper and display it prominently on the front of the fridge. Display the same on your front door. That should take care of it.
Of course, if you can't speak and you're home alone, it would be interesting to know who called the EMT personnel.
I don't want to live a minute past the point where I cannot take care of myself or my animals. Having seen both parents suffer the effects of strokes, there is such a big difference between merely existing and having quality of life. The body is a shell that my spirit resides in. Once it no longer serves its purpose, it's time to discard it and move on.

^^^This. And I'm not even near retirement age, but this decision gives me peace, relief. I will not suffer. Saw it with both my parents, as well.
