I was going to start taking my social security payment at 66 which is my full retirement age. I am going to get aprox. 2100 and my wife will be like 65 and 2 months at the time and I had someone on here figured she would get aprox. 984.00. today I was thinking if I went to 66 and 10 months then I would get more. im not sure exactly how much but im thinking somewhere around 2225. my question here is what would my wife get get at 66 because when she turns 66 ill be 66 and 10 months at which I would start collecting. would she get 1/2 of the 2100 or 1/2 of the 2225. im not sure what the rule is. thank you

Above is correct. Her benefit on your account will not change.

But as long as you are willing to assume you will not die delaying your SS as long as possible is a good investment.

You might be able to delay your SS but collect "half" of your wife's and she collect all. I think at 70 you could switch to your benefit and she to 1/2 of yours if it was more.

The rules are changing in April and I am not current. The purpose of the post is to give you some options to investigate that you may not have considered.

the only option they have is restricted application at this point after april . he can delay his and if she files he can get 1/2 hers . then get his at 70 .

You didn't say whether your wife would get any benefits on her own account or if she didn't work etc. either way if half of your benefit is more than her benefit then she would get that higher amount. But it is always based on your FRA not extra credits. Now if you die before her she would then stop getting the half benefit she was getting and get the full amount [including the extra credits] as widows benefits.

as long as 1/2 his is higher it doesn't matter since they no longer have any options except restricted application . any file and suspending option is over for them in april .
