Not really. I've had two spinal fusion surgeries and a knee replacement in the 2.5 years I've been retired. And more to come.

Retired social worker in Vegas. Supervised for 15 years but left with 33 years of work in two states and two countries. Toxic politics and not just bad management, but **** poor management, got me out of there with my health at 56. Others got sick and some died. Best decision I ever made and am living in the sun with no house payment. Still do a little part time work as I enjoyed my career. But no more crap, commute, and stress. We travel and I sleep til I feel like getting up. Shameful how late that can be but who do I need to please now? The secret is to save, spend wisely, work out and go easy on the gambling. Never looked back and am grateful!

I went to the funeral of a retired part time worker a couple of years after I retired. One of my co-workers who was still working asked me if I had a face lift. Stress is very aging.

I certainly plan to be healthier, when I'm not working third shift in a very stressful environment! I'm aiming for March 1, 2018. We shall see. I can only imagine how much healthier I will feel and act.

At my old work place we held Christmas drinks for retirees and staff who had clocked over 20 years. I often remarked that the retirees looked about 5-10 years younger after about a year of retirement. Fewer lines, more colour in the cheeks and a bit of a tan. Not all but definitely not most.
I am now 6 years retired, a bit greyer but much healthier.

6 Months after I retired, I had my yearly physical. My doctor and myself were both surprised to see much better numbers, lower cholesterol, lower blood pressure. I also felt better, more relaxed, and calmer. While working, I had a few panic attacks, and bot times I did feel like I was dying.

I have been retired now for 15 years and have never had a panic attack, my BP is almost normal, cholesterol has stayed lower, and I have lost 40 pounds. I exercise daily and feel really well.

The one benefit that I did not see coming was that my eye sight has gotten better. I don't need to wear glasses anymore and I have always had to wear glasses since I was 11. I have never had corrective surgery.

Yes, retirement has made me healthier.

hell yes..get out while you're still alive..at least 2 of my co-workers perished this year with only a year to go before retirement age..and one was a year past his retirement age but stayed on for whatever reason..he got hit by a train while operating a back hoe..the one in Philly a couple of months ago..

so go whenever you can..life is short..

My job got downsized in October, 2014 about a year and a half before I was set to retire (in March 2016). It took seven months to find a new job but in that time it was like a "practice" retirement and I have to say I loved every minute. No stress, no commuting, etc. etc.

I was lucky to find a good position close to home and have pushed retirement back to March 2017 because of some good financial incentives. Not my first choice, but it will work out well in the long run. Having had a taste of retirement and knowing how that felt, though, I can say with 100% certainty that I'll feel better and healthier once the time comes.

My eyes improved also. Passed my vision test for my drivers' license without having to use my glasses. That restriction is now off!

The DMV person said it was typical after someone stopped working and doing close computer work. But I don't know about that. I'm on my computer probably more now than when I was working.
