I got annoyed by the LinkedIn notifications and stop participating. I never did see much purpose to having an account. It was supposed to function as some sort of network to help with job information and finding jobs. I don't think it was ever of much use.
I retired about a year ago and I'm wondering if I should either update my Linkedin status or just take down the account.
I'm not looking for employment.
What did you do and why?
... I'm not retired, quite yet, and I'm no longer looking for employment, either.
A couple of years ago, I began "shifting-the-focus" (if that's what you want to call it) of my LinkedIn account to a more-personable "look". I began removing references to what's-left of my life's work with computers, and began asking to "Friend" numerous musician and A/V-type people I saw who use LinkedIn, too, because that's where I (think I) want to be active when I retire, next year.
But ... Other than that, I only get on that app when something or someone "reminds" me.
I also think that, once I'm fully-retired, I'm going to want that LinkedIn account removed/deleted. It's mostly "internet clutter".

My Dad kept his going. He asked that we continue it upon his passing, which we obliged. Taking down the account can make it harder for 2nd degree people to find each other - it's a community.
I updated mine to say "retired", and am keeping it going at the moment. Of course, it's only been two~ weeks, and I was RIF'ed retired at age 57. I don't have much chance in Hell of getting another job doing what I did, for the pay level I was getting. Not with Indians doing (what management THINKS is) the same thing for 1/10th the pay level.
It also keeps me in contact with old co-workers that didn't get RIF'ed. You never know when one of your contacts might pop up with a good job offer, if you are open to taking one for some extra cash.
Well, you say you are retired, but what if someone say in Dubai made you an offer you could hardly refuse? Interesting work that lands directly in your "wheel house", with lucrative compensation?
Or would you prefer they not be able to find you?
I'll update mine when I retire, and make it clear that I can certainly be "bribed" into saddling up again, although preferably just for relatively short runs.
Many people just treat it like facebook. I'm retired and on Linking Den too. But its really quite worthless except as a slight ego booster.
