I have a number of Roman and Greek coins that even Jesus would have said "Cool - those are old!" However, my rock, mineral and fossil collection undoubtedly includes a number of specimens that are About As Old As You Can Get.
Not sure. I have an old Russian samovar that I purchased in Turkey in the early 1970s. It was old then.
I also have a quilt made by my great aunt. She came to the US from Sweden in the 1880s. In her later years she was confined to a wheelchair. Her husband would take her to the barn in the chair to milk the cows. She is the one who had to do it - it was women's work.
i have a white metal dump truck from when i was 5 . i also have the drum practice pad that my dad gave me at 10 years old . i still use it to keep my chops in shape .
I have an 1860s McGuffy reader teaching book.
Also an old Bible from 1868.
I will inherit a dry sink commode from the late 1800s, also a small glass doored hand carved China chest belonging to my great aunt, whose husband got it as an anniversary present from 1902. And her 1910 Regulator key wound clock.
We have my OHs grandfather's barrister book cases, and some grandmother's Crystal glass ware.
My OH has several mineral crystals dug out if the Earth, from waaaaaay back.
Right now I'm the oldest person at my work place ;-)
I have a humpback trunk that I remember as a child in the '60's. My mom said it came over on the Mayflower. I don't know if that is true or if she made it up or if that is a family legend passed on to her. She is gone now so I will never know. I use it to store "cover-ups", ie crocheted throws, small blankets, and an electric blanket that I have never used. I added cedar blocks to the lid so it smells, to quote Pee Wee Herman......."Mmmmmmmm, cedar-y."
I'm not sure but I imagine with many people it would be a really old photograph of a relative.
I have a framed picture of 6 generations, from 1956! To put in perspective, my grandfather's grandmother is alive, and he just became a great-grandfather. His grandmother was 106, then his mother, 86, then him 60+, his oldest daughter, 43, his granddaughter, 17, and his great-grandson 6 mos. Does this count?
I have a trilobite fossil that is tens of millions of years old.
Your trilobite fossil would be at least 250 million years old; that's when trilobites went extinct... but they were around for a long time, so the fossil could be older yet; 500 million years, even.
I have a fossilized Knightia fish (ancient relative of sardines), but it would be a youngster by comparison, 50 million years old at most.
As far as household stuff that still works, I still have a microwave oven that I bought in the early 1980s... getting 35 years of use from an appliance is doing pretty well, I think. It's the only microwave I've ever owned.
