We have 2 acres. I take care of 90% of it - mowing, weed whacking, pruning. The one thing I do not do is pull weeds by hand and for that we pay $15/hr for someone to do it. Flower beds and the garden need weeding and it is too close for a weed whacker.
It I were to pay a service, it would cost about $500/month. So I am saving $6k per year doing it myself. We spend that $6k on fun stuff, trips, going out to dinner etc. It is like a part time job for me (I am retired). Good part is I can tell the boss off without getting fired.
