Well, it's pure blizzard outside my window now - snow blowing sideways, estimates differ on how much will fall, if we do get the 10-12" estimate it will surely drift with this wild wind. No reason to go outside at all today...

I'm retired and love to go out in the snow. Going to Whole Foods in a bit (about 4 blocks each way) to figure out what we're having for dinner tonight. For anyone who doesn't know the secret: it's called layers.

I just got my new handy dandy iron skillets

A 6"
A 8"
A 10"

to replace my mother's whom I inherited and then lost in a move

If the power goes out I have dozens of jar candles
A wood burning fireplace
Enough wood for a winter

And my iron skillets to cook over the hob.

It will be just like camping.

Oh, and it is so blasted cold I could easily put all my freezer food on the balcony in a cooler.

I have to go to the store and get booze....you know, the medicinal kind !

Here in sunny Indianapolis Indiana at 3 degrees today -12 tonight

We've had negative wind chills for a week now. We had a nice walk in the zoo on New Years Eve in 6 degree weather for two and a half hours. I love this weather and it's all about the gear. I'll take this over hot and humid any day.

It is 4:15 pm here in R.I., the snow continues to fall and a foot so far has dropped. My SO is out now snow blowing the driveway and walkways, and the two 20 something brothers from across the street I have know since their births came over with their GFs to help my SO out who still thinks he is also 20 something. Hopefully this heavy snow fall along with the single digit temps coming this weekend will kill off this nasty flu that has been going round and round here since the fall.

So glad that I now work in a hospital clinic where we can cancel appointments and because of that I didn't have to go into work today like I did when I worked many years in the ER where they expected if you had to hire a dog sled to make it into work. Doesn't get much better for me in the winter than a surprise day off from work spent in PJs sipping a hot cup of coffee watching the snow fall. Just got my fingers crossed that we don't loose power because it means packing up 3 cats and heading to the nearest pet friendly Motel 6 that has it's lights on as well as it's heat.

Here in the upper midwest we have been in the deep freeze since before Christmas with night time temps -20 and day time temps barely cracking 0'. My little bungalow is cozy, but without any measurable insulation in most of the walls the heat is running more often than not. Between the heat and keeping the faucet running I hate to think what my utility bill will be

Poor dogs haven't been outside for more than 5-10 minutes at a time for 2 weeks now. We are all going stir crazy. The end is in sight though; come Sunday it is supposed to be high 30s.

I'm scared to see what our bill is going to be this month and last.....it's been well below normal here since before Christmas. We haven't seen 32 degrees in weeks! This weekend, we'll be hitting negatives....so NOT looking forward to that. Our furnace is on pretty much nonstop. At least, it's natural gas. 3 hours east of us there's a MAJOR propane shortage and they won't have any for 7-10 days. I can't even imagine! We're supplementing with our electric fireplaces here and there when needed.

Our dogs haven't even been out for 5 minutes! Granted they're 8 and 10 pounds. They literally leave the steps, do their business, and RUN back up the steps. The screen door doesn't even have time to close! I can't say I blame them. I know I wouldn't want to be putting my butt into a snowbank at 11 degrees with winds 30 mph.

Had one air handler burn out and no heat upstairs. Will take a week for new equipment to be installed. Can wait for the relief coming even if just not as cold

no heat here except for one small baseboard heater for our week of extreme cold. This is the first morning that there hasn't been ice on the inside of the kitchen window. The only water that froze is to my washer. We are fine but I have been wrapped unbathed in unwashed quilts, in several layers of clothing with two smelly little dogs for a week.

I asked the repairman who was coming today if he could come instead next week when it warms up. I don't mind muddling through but I hate for anyone to see us like this.

He thinks I'm crazy
