Trying to find out if anyone has experience with VA health care in NC or VA.
Going to be retiring in 5-10 years and want to leave Watertown,NY.
Want to buy a smaller size 2BR house under 1000 SQ FT. within 60 miles of a VA hospital since I use them for healthcare.
I lived in Wilmington,NC before but never used VA healthcare there.
Not interested in HOA at all.

I think your question would receive more and better answers on the forums for NC and VA.

I know several folks who are quite happy with the VA hospital in Durham, NC. I also notice that with serious illnesses, they often reach out to Duke or UNC/rex.

I don't see many houses in the Triangle area that small. Condos and townhouses, yes, but of course they have HOA's. In fact, finding a house with no HOA in the Triangle is more and more difficult.

Perhaps more importantly, in 5-10 years, the VA system could be totally changed. As a past resident of Phoenix, I would hope for the better. But if this country ever has universal health care or socialized medicine, the VA medical system may morph into that. Nobody can see the future.

Thank you for your service.

Thanks. I want to avoid HOA's, they seem to be unregulated and do what they want from my experience in Wilmington,NC.

I'm assuming that "VA" stands for either Veterans Administration or Virginia, depending on context.

I think I've heard pretty good things about the VA facilities in Salem, VA, which is next to Roanoke. You might want to post in the Roanoke sub-forum for more info. You should be able to find a decent amount of housing in the area that might suit your needs.

Best wishes on finding a great area to enjoy your retirement years.
