When I was perhaps 4 years old I developed a positive passion for Egg Foo Young and other Chinese food drenched in soy sauce. We got this every couple of weeks or so at a Chinese take-out. My mother apparently thought that too much soy sauce wasn't good for me so she told me that it was medicine—obviously to discourage me. It didn't work; however; I simply asked for more medicine.
What brought this ancient memory to the surface is a fascinating article I read on maternal lies.
