I've heard as you age you become more forgiving, patient, and at peace with yourself.

That contradicts the behavior I see and witness in retirees. Most of them seem to be cranky, crotchety, negative, complain a lot, and just don't seem happy. Does all the bitterness creep up to you as you age and how do you combat it and refuse to submit to it and be happy?

I was always crotchety and cranky.

Some people never become more forgiving, patient or at peace with themselves. Getting older doesn't automatically transform someone into a gentle, loving, saintly oldster.

I think the crankiness may come from chronic pain and maybe some disappointment in how their lives turned out with little time or ability to change its course.

There are plenty of young people who are negative, unhappy and complain a lot, too, and they are generally in good health with their whole lives ahead of them.

Go take a stroll over at the Politics and Other Controversies forum. Plenty of angry, unhappy (and at times, scary as hell) people of all ages. Retirees don't have a lock on those types of feelings.

I wonder the same thing lately. It makes me begin a plan to protect my brain via vitamins and such.
I'll off myself if this is how Chapter 3 of 3 will feel like.

When you age you see and hear the same things over and over. You react to it. Couple Examples:

I watch a lot of TV and see various shows all day from Local news, Entertainment, to News Channels spin the same news and what they call "heart warming" stories. They have the nerve to "tease" you on news stories that have been on the news and internet all day. Often I'll switch channels as I am annoyed about the dumb tease.

I find National Morning Edutainment Shows and Local News anchors to be so fake with their reactions, attempts to be witty and charming, and plastic smiles and the women all wear a similar one color sleeveless dress and they start to look like lemmings.

Don't get me started on them trying to hype the Weather to get folks riled up--especially on a slow news day.

Yeah, it sounds B*tchy, negative, and complaining but I'm older now

They’ve earned the right to cranky and grouchy

There’s a saying, it’s called “I’m getting too old for this s***.”

Most of the daily annoyances and pet peeves in life, they’ve experienced many times before.
