I think I paid about $25 for the last pair of Wranglers I bought at WalMart.

I've been a 43R all my life, from 162 pound to 205 pounds. The last suit I ordered came in as a 44Slim, since they couldn't be bothered to build me a 43R. I've been waiting two months now for them to build me a 44R, which the shop owner has promised to alter to fit. Things may be changing, try before you buy.

I agree with you on that (stores not having clothes for older gents)

The few occasions where I buy clothes, I go to Sears. They have conservative/traditional styles and I can get decent shirts and slacks in the $20-25 range.

But, hopefully you still have a Sears in your area. They are quickly becoming extinct. But, I believe you can find the same items online.

I am 76 and I dress preppy/golfer. My favorite pants are LL Bean

Bean offers different cuts in their pants from slim to full. Check that out.

LL Bean shirts (polo, dress, sport, etc.) are top of the line products.

LL Bean has a very liberal return policy so do not hesitate to order online then return if necessary.

Kohl's has a reasonably priced men's line called Croft and Barrow

Kohl's in general is worth a visit. Many steps above Walmart but less expensive than LL Bean.

During the summer (April to October) I wear Micro Fiber shorts which can be found online at multiple sources.

I rarely wear jeans but mine are from LL Bean

Hope this helps.

Brooks Brothers
Lord & Taylor
Dillard's

They all sell the classics, which work well on any adult, regardless of age.

OP, you didn't say what price range or style you were looking for (casual, dress, etc) but I have luck finding my father (around 80 y/o) clothing at Kohl's. As another poster mentioned, they have the Croft & Barrow line for everyday casual wear. They also sell Arrow, Van Huesen, lines of casual clothes that aren't too trendy looking.

My primary source for clothing is DXL, online and they have a store less than half an hour away. My height and width makes them the best choice. Unlike some retailers that cater to big guys their selection is much more stylish and professional. Eddie Bauer tall sizes also work for me.
