I almost didn't take a call from a new clinic I have an appointment with. But, they had left a message yesterday to confirm my appointment & it went to voicemail. I then recognized it was the same number & answered.
Good thing I did as it was a robocall confirming the appointment & I had to press 1 to accept.
I don't know why they would use this but glad I responded as it took two months to get the appointment. Normally I don't answer numbers I don't recognize.
Just because a person gets old, doesn't mean they automatically get dumb.
I don't understand why old people are portrayed as morons who can't determine what's up with just about anything.
If you don't have dementia, then these "scams" should not affect you or even be a concern to you - someone calls and tries to pull something shady? Hang up and continue on with your day!

I have an app that screens out scam/phishing calls and have blocked a specific area code with unknown numbers from my previous state. I need to answer some unknown numbers in my new state because they are from my oncologist or doctor referrals following up for various lab work etc. saying don’t answer unknown numbers is just not practical solution.
I recently read that being easily scammed by people calling on the phone could be a sign of dementia. That's why some older people fall prey so readily and answer every phone call instead of letting voice mail take care of calls from numbers not recognized.
If you call early in the morning, the recipient of the call may not have eyewear to read the caller ID.
Also, real and phony police charities have made extensive use of cold calls to homes in the past. People have been conditioned to believe the police will call them at their homes at any hour.
