I think the best or at least favorite gift my mother ever got was a little doll (depicting her in one of her characteristic poses) I found selling for a dollar in an antique store. Because the head popped off when I went to pay for it, they reduced the price to 50 cents. She cried with surprise and joy when she unwrapped it and spent considerably more on a glass bell jar to keep the dust off it in its place of honor on the mantel thereafter. THAT'S what it's all about.

If my Mom cried with surprise and joy over a headless doll, I would look askance, but as long as you made her happy in a cost-effective manner...
I have read many opinions from older people who said what they DON'T want or need regarding a material gift, but I can't remember reading a column about what gifts they wouldlike.
So, leaving out "warm and fuzzy" non-material gifts such as "my family with me at Christmas" or "world peace", or something like "all my bills to be paid in full" or "a new car would be nice", what would you appreciate as a gift that would cost less than $100? (That figure is arbitrary, btw -- I just put that in because that is the maximum that I would spend on a gift for a relative.)
I already have a .300 Magnum Pre-64 Model 70 Super Grade in mint condition. I would like a .375 Magnum partner for it. The .300 set me back just shy of $6000 a few years ago. I have an extra Lyman M48 sight for the newcomer available, but an another M48 would be, so to speak, icing on the cake
What can I say, like Sir Winston I am easily satisfied with the very best.
For the totally uninitiated, these are collector grade Winchester rifles.

Missed point much? The head (obviously) popped back on again. And I didn't buy it because it was cheap, but because it was perfect. Never mind. Enjoy exchanging your boring gift cards, everyone!

It was obvious that you did not give your mother a headless doll that she displayed in a bell jar. You surely can see that your wording left the door open for it.
I misjudged your capacity for humor. My apologies. Now I know.
Uh, yeah. I thought the OP idea was ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS OR LESS.
