Hello All,
This is my first post to city data, and I am looking for some information regarding the Compass School in North Kingstown. My husband & I are considering relocating to the Wickford area. We recently had a 3 day visit & explored the area a bit & the charming village. To be able to find a home within walking distance of the downtown area & small beach would be wonderful. Our primary reason for visiting this area is our interest in the charter school, "The Compass School". Does anyone have any children or know of anyone who has children in this school that would be willing to give me an HONEST opinion of this place? We didn't gleem much in our visit with the school, although the director did take some time to answer our off the top of our heads questions. We didn't get too much encouragement in terms of actually getting our children (entering Kindergarten) into the school. We are very familiar with the process in NJ (where we currently live) on how charter schools work, but it seems that they have only approx 16-18 slots that open up & over 70 applicants. We are not interested in the traditional school systems with the "teaching to the test" systems in place now, sending 5 yr olds home with homework, and not allowing for much outdoor time. The environmental charter school, project based, multi age level classes & focus on the whole child are more in line with our way of green & holistic living style. I have heard there are Waldorf & Montessori schools nearby, but I'm not familiar with them mainly because they tend to be astronomically expensive & not within our budget. Would welcome all & any opinions, as I have lots of questions, but don't want to overwhelm with my first post.

Regards!
