Blaming things on liberal policies is a big part of the problem. Some of the most efficient and well run countries in the world are also highly liberal.
That depends on what you how you define 'liberal' (or 'conservative' for that matter). Those definitions do not translate exactly from the US to Europe, for example.
But I also am not sure of which countries you speak that are efficient and well-run.
That's only two places better than this Liberal Hell that you secretly regret leaving and spend all your time bashing!
Gee, maybe Saltatrix is correct in stating that the conservative/liberal lens is a bunk way of determining causality in terms of job creation. Particularly given the fact that the evil TAXACHUSETTS is ranked way, way above North Carolina.
I'm sure you've learned something here.
Obviously MET LIFE has it figured out precisely, and what their business decision means to the company and their bottom line. There are four other states involved in this MET LIFE decision to relocate.
You still have time to contact MET LIFE in RI as well as the other four states and make sure to send them that *link you posted above. They probably need a good laugh now and then.
^ North Carolina, which is of course "brother and sister marry each other" territory, is so great that it had to give away close to $100 million in tax breaks to attract Northern jobs. Real, real attractive place!
From the cheerleading article you cited:
Quote:
MetLife received a 12-year state Job Development Investment Grant worth as much as $87.2 million. The state has given larger total incentive packages – Dell, for instance, was promised $242 million from the state – but the grant is the largest in the history of the JDIG program, which returns to companies a portion of withholding taxes paid by new employees.
The largest previous JDIG grant went to Fidelity, which in 2006 was promised $54.6 million to create 2,000 jobs in Research Triangle Park. Fidelity was also represented by KLG Advisors.
The sheer size of the incentives package is sure to re-ignite the debate over whether offering such money to corporations is good public policy. Robert F. Orr, a Raleigh lawyer who has sued the state unsuccessfully in the past over incentives, said he takes issue with the fact that some of these jobs will moving from other parts of the country.
“To me it’s important, as an American, whether jobs are actually being created or jobs are simply being moved from some other place so that all the joy in Cary, North Carolina, is counterbalanced by some community in another part of the country taking a major hit,” he said. “If government is going to be subsidizing private industry, it should be subsidizing the creation of new jobs in new industries, not playing the transfer game.”

Of course they did!! Big corporations, especially insurance companies, are all about their bottom line and not about their employees. They don't care what cultural backwater they relocate to, as long as it has a labor force that will work for less and offers a lower taxed environment. They probably considered Pakistan as well but NC offered the most $$$.
Of course, what will happen to NC is what happens to every state that experiences high growth: sprawl, housing shortages resulting in higher prices, more traffic, etc etc. Then the state will become undesirable and everyone will look for the next place to exploit.
PS. I quoted 243 persons because that was what was reported. Obviously the poster who quoted the inside info knows better and it looks like most will just take the severance or retire- good news for them.
Now that Chafee has pretty much decimated the EDC in RI after the Shilling debacle, maybe he can find a better group of nominees to take the reins and invite suitable industry to RI.
Their building off Rt 2 is enormous. It's like a private compound.
