When I search for directions in Google Maps I get 2 options. Although Google Maps says the second option takes a little longer it seems like it may be more highway and the first options seems it could possibly have more stop and go driving. I'll paste the options in 2 follow up posts to try to make it easier to read. If anyone is really familiar with these roads and can offer any insight or suggestions I would really appreciate it. We're leaving on Friday for Misquamicut Beach. My GPS also gives the first set of directions.

If you have time, check out Watch Hill which is a village in Westerly - and go to Napatree Point. It is GORGEOUS (just went for the first time last weekend).
Also, if you like trying breakfast places, I highly recommend The Cooked Goose. We had the lobster eggs benedict and the vanilla almond french toast. It was incredible and all the staff was extremly nice. Great bakery there too.
Bit of a toss up, but with route #2 you avoid driving through Hartford, which would be a good thing during certain times of the day.
That's kind of what I was thinking too. We'll probably hit the Hartford area between 1:30-2:30 PM. I keep going back and forth on the best way to go, right now I kind of thinking Route #2 may be the best bet for the least amount of traffic.

Thanks for the suggestions. Yeah my wife's boss also suggested Watch Hill so that was on our list of things to do. Our daughter is only 3 so we kind of have to be careful on picking places to eat as she can be a picky eater. Sometimes she surprised us though on the things she'll eat.

You're welcome.
And if it helps, the breakfast place has fresh baked muffins, scones and other baker products plus the usual - pancakes, eggs, etc.
Since you have a little one, there is a small carousel at the end of Bay St. in Watch Hill (there's only one street in the village so it's easy to find).
And of course there's a great ice cream shop where they make their own ice cream right there. :-)
