I respect a person who has the ability to change their mind based on consideration of facts on the ground. I find our present obsession with consistency on the issues to be patently foolish, for none of us are wise a priori and all have room to learn, grow, and evolve. Change your mind and tell me why you did so. It has the potential to speak volumes about a person's character and intellect.

Every politician should have an agenda. If they don't, they are just taking up space and have no business being in office. Hopefully the agenda is to better our civilization. If their actions do not back this up, vote them out of office without regard to party affiliation.

I don't believe this is the case with Linc. I think he is easily swayed to take the "easy road". I don't think he is a man of conviction, rather a man who seeks to be liked by those with whom he leads and/or associates.

Yes, I think changing one's mind through evolving thought is a good thing. I just don't think he has done that.

I do not vote party line, rather look at each individual and choose the one who has values and ideas that are most aligned with my own. At this point, the nation needs a leader, one who DOES have his own agenda that hopefully will make the country a better place. We need a strong rebuilder, not a puppet. I believe that Linc is a puppet. I am also a realist, though, and know that the chances of a true leader being elected is remote at best.

I believe he could be a great philanthropist or humanitarian. But he does not have what it takes to be a great politician. That is only my opinion.

I think that is what a true civic-minded American does, and hopefully in a way that balances our personal needs with our national needs.

Of course, we always need a leader, but the bit about him being a puppet is interesting to me. Who do you think is pulling Lincoln Chafee's strings? Can you elaborate with examples from his prior service?

And one you are entitled to hold.

What he apparently is not is an extrovert. And I do wonder what space, what tolerance, if any, we have in the political arena for introverts.

I don't believe there is any ONE organization that is controlling him. I think he bows to anyone who will confront him. Maybe a puppet is too strong of a word. I just think he backs down, passes blame, etc, when any confrontation arises. I will have to look up some examples, I suppose, but this is merely opinion and how I feel about him as a politician. I think he would be better suited in other arenas, that's all.
