Given recent Covid restrictions, should Rhode Island beaches be restricted to RI Residents Only? DEM says not possible.

Just charge out of staters who don’t own RI property $100/day.

I'm far more concerned with Rhode Islanders on my beaches than me on theirs. I think it's a great idea.

Our beaches are far superior to yours, and out water is warmer.

Why would we bother?

The best of MA equals the good RI beaches. I can see heading from Warren or Tiverton to Horesneck, for instance. Nothing holds a candle to South Beach MV imho. Outside of that, you are probably right.

RI beaches are loaded with out of state residents inc. plenty from MA.

I think banning out of staters during the Covid crisis is a good idea and I can't imagine why DEM would say you can't. We're placing restrictions on travelers on federal highways.

Well they need to limit the crowds, and obviously RI residents should get priority so...

Horseneck is fine - a nice change once in a while - but 2nd Beach is very much preferred.

From what I understand, 80% of the people who go to Misquamicut are from out of state.

Horseneck isn’t the best beach in that part of the coast. The Allen’s Pond and Barney’s Joy beach is much better. Massachusetts Audubon owns it all now. Allen’s Pond is closed other than to birders. Barney’s has been closed to new memberships for ages but it’s an amazing beach with almost no people on it. I try to get there a couple of times per summer with friends who have a membership. My family sadly gave up theirs 30+ years ago. The Horseneck state beach is shockingly eroded. Baker’s Beach and the Westport town beach west of it are in a lot better shape.

I got dragged to Misquamicut once. I’m not used to crowded beaches. I just got out of the water at my beach a mile from the house. I see a family of four on a blanket and a couple in beach chairs. It gets the job done and it’s private so it’s never all that busy.

I'm afraid that debating whose beaches are better is a bit juvenile. Even for me. Sand is sand.
