Most of you probably heard about the massive brawl that occurred last weekend on Narragansett Town Beach. A good 500 were involved. The police were attacked, had to call in mutual aid from everywhere. I don't think anybody wants to see such mayhem occur again.
" The communication by Warren stated the following suggestions:
"A cap on the number of beach patrons each day. One common complaint of residents is that the beach is overcrowded to the point of being unsafe. When people are crowded and beachgoers drink to excess, violence follows! This is evidenced by the riot of [Sunday].
A Narragansett Police Officer be stationed at the town beach daily and ride the beach on an ATV. All parking lots should be reserved for town residents/taxpayers, except for the dirt lot across the street (west lot).
Limit the number of RIPTA busses that stop at our beach. Council President Jesse Pugh recently established the Narragansett Coastal Access Improvement Committee. One item on their agenda of this month was to discuss RIPTA beach routes and encouragement of routes to our beach.
All nonresidents should be required to enter through the South Pavilion so that their belongings may be inspected to ensure that weapons are not allowed on the beach."
Jane Warren refused comment on Thursday when reached at home."
Their beach, their rules. It may be a bit excessive, but so is what happened. Residents have also been complaining about street racing taking place at night.
Personally, I never understood the appeal of that beach. Sure, it's convenient, but there's much nicer beaches here.
There were big brawls at White Horse Beach in Plymouth and Hampton Beach, NH, too. Seems organized.
The one at White Horse was some kind of organized "boxing" match, word is the Narragansett melee was some sort of high school rivalry that started small and broke out into multiple fights.

I prefer it to Scarborough and prefer 2nd Beach to both, but that's kind of a hassle to get to especially with summer traffic so I probably more often end up going to Narragansett (before Labor Day).
Never experienced problems at any of them, although it's been a few years now. Not sure if this is isolated, or who is causing the problems ("RIPTA" crowd?).
Narragansett Town Beach is only served by the #14, which runs express from Kennedy Plaza to the airport, then local down Routes 1, 1A, and 108 to Salt Pond Plaza. It doesn't go to Cranston, Johnston, or Old Lyme, CT where those arrested live, and it doesn't run on Sundays when the brawl occurred.
