My husband is being transferred to Petersburg, Va. We currently live in the Northeast of England. We have two young boys that will be in primary school next year. Looking for good schools, close amenities, and moderate housing costs. Would like to stay within a 45 minute commute. Any advice on best areas to live would be most helpful.

Chesterfield County would be a good place to start looking.

Petersburg has a lot of charm and history but if you're looking for good schools, Chesterfield County has a top rated school district and it is only 10 minutes away.
Contact me if I can further assist you or if you'd like a relocation package. You can email me at Sellnhomes@comcast.net

JE -

We relocated to the Chester area almost three years ago. It has been a great move for our family. I've also got two kids in the Chesterfield County school system. If you do a search for some of my previous posts, I've definitely got lots on the forum on our experience, all good! With a Chester location, you would be able to hop on I95 and get to Petersburg within about 20-25 minutes, depending on where he works.

Hope this helps, and let the forum know if you have any other questions... we're a pretty helpful bunch!

Default Is Petersburg really that bad ?

Hi Everyone,

My husband has just received orders to Fort Lee and we're looking for a place to live.
I've been searching online for some areas to live and I've absolutely fallen in love with the Petersburg historic district. I would love to buy and re-hab one of those old homes and Olde Towne Petersburg looks really neat.
Now for the BUT....I've heard and read on some city-data sites that the crime rate in Petersburg is the highest in VA and one of the highest in the country ?
A couple of my husbands buddies that had attended school there said that the Army made Petersburg 'off limits' due to it's high rate of crime ?
Can anyone advise us on this ? Is Petersburg really that dangerous or is this a slight over exaggeration ?
My husband is moving from TX and I'm joining him from Singapore which is one of the safest cities in the world, am I in for a rude awakening ?

Would appreciate any advice ?
