I am used to seeing small independent style bakeries where I am from. I havent seen any here yet. I know I could go to the Cheesecake Factory and some food stores for the typical cakes, but I am looking for a higher level of pastries/cakes. Not mega-manufactured. Let me know if you are aware of any.....thanks.

I think there is a cupcake store on Lauderdale and another on West Broad across the street from Home Depot...there are several in Richmond and the near West End if you are interested

I think the bakery on West Broad you're thinking of is called Frostings. AMAZING cupcakes, but I don't think they do anything else.
