FIL used to be in the VA, looks like it used to be a nice area. Not so much anymore. MY son had his phone stolen in the Fan - first call made was a house on Broad Rock. VA is a fine place to work but that is not where you want to live.

Broad rock is bad. You have the veterans hospital there but you can't live anywhere right around hospital. You are about 8 min away from area on south side of river called Westover hills. Older city homes but generally a nice area (still not so good city schools). Of course from there to loft or such downtown about 10 minutes away.

If looking more family friendly you are going to want chesterfield county. Broad rock is actually rt 10 which goes into chesterfield/chester which you are then talking 15-20 min commute

Stay away from Broad Rock Blvd. My dad works at the VA Hospital and I worked Armed Security in the area. It is no place to be living.

This is not why it is trash, just facts, but it has the heaviest Latino community in the city and is not far off a lot of high crime areas.

You might want to look at downtown area such as Oregon Hill, Carver, The Fan, etc... are all easy drives to the VA Hospital area. That's exactly what I do and I love it. I do agree with the other posters.. you do not want to actually live near the VA Hospital.

I agree with this. It may be ok to work there but it's suicide to live there. I can recommend some decent apartments close to the area that are safe though if you want. Maybe you guys and drive through and see if you like them.
