My husband and I are planning a move to Richmond in 2013. We are both in our 40's and our children are grown. We don't care about night life. He is a truck driver looking for a local position and I am currently a correctional officer (but I would like to do something different). What are the chances of finding decent employment?

I don't know about your positions for employment but as a whole Richmond and its metro areas are fairing well despite the economy. Lots of people are moving here so they must be finding work. We moved back last year and I honestly didn't find getting employment any harder than when we were living in the northeast.

yea the economy in richmond is not doing too poorly. our laws are relatively business friendly and we're close enough to some of the bigger cities like DC and NYC to be a strategic location. people also don't tend to move here unless they have a reason to which decreases your competition. i'm not saying richmond is a bad place to live at all bc many people love it (i do), but its just not a popular relocation hot spot like LA, NYC, or the sunny beaches in FL.

however, the largest industries in the area are legal and financial services. there are also quite a few jobs in government, healthcare, and education. i have NO idea about your husband's field and you didn't indicate what kind of employment you might seek.

Thanks for the info. I will be seeking some type of call center or customer service position. I have quite of few years experience in this area and hopefully I will start attending college again.
