Bellevue is awesome. We moved from the Fan (which is also awesome) about a year ago. Great neighbors, our house is solid and full of charm/character, and within 4-5 blocks we can walk to 6+ restaurants, dry cleaner, Once Upon a Vine, yoga studio, antique stores, music shop, CVS, and soon a locally sourced neighborhood grocer.

Go with Bellevue if you are going North. Stay away from Brookland Park area, Chamberlayne, Ginter Park, Brook Rd (23227 area) if you can help it (to include Barton Heights).

Bellevue is in 23227 and its eastern border is Brook Road. Brook is very clean and well kept between Westbrook and Brookland Park Blvd as it runs parallel to Seminary Ave. Much of Ginter Park is very nice. I agree the commercial area of Brookland Park Boulevard and Chamberlayne Ave are both very sketchy.
